B. 1969. Dr. polit. I have been working at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies, University of Bergen since 2009, from 2016 as full professor.

From 2000-2010 I held a variety of posts at the Department of Media and Journalism, Volda University College, including assistant professor, doktor stipendiate and post.doc. From fall 2011 to summer 2012 I also held the post of associate professor (20%) at the Department of Musicology at the University of Oslo.

Research interests: Social research methodology (in particular survey methodology and multivariate categorical data analysis), the sociology of Pierre Bourdieu and classical European sociology/anthropology, empirical studies of social fields and social spaces, cultural sociology , the sociology of professions (in particular the journalistic profession) and the sociology of education.

My doctoral thesis, Profane and Sacred (2009) is a study of the Norwegian Journalistic Field.

I have published articles in Communications, Convergence, European Journal of Communication, Game Studies, International Journal of Communication, Javnost, Journalism Practice, Journalism Studies, Journalism, Media, Culture & Society, Norsk Medietidsskrift (Norwegian Journal of Media Studies), Nordic Journal of Cultural Policy, Nordicom Information, Nordicom Review, Poetics, Praktiske Grunde, Sosiologisk tidsskrift (Norwegian Journal of Sociology) and UniPed.
